Biography
Ying Da (Chinese: 英达; also credited as Danniel Ying) is a Chinese actor and director of Manchu origin. Born in Beijing on 7 July 1960, he made his film debut in The Last Aristocrats (1988) and had a cameo as the manager (Na Kun) in Chen Kaige's Farewell My Concubine (1993).
He is known for film roles including Louie Wang in Big Shot's Funeral (2001), for which he won the Hundred Flowers Award for Best Supporting Actor, Jin Shenghuo in The Message (2009), and appearances in The Dream Factory (1997), The White Countess (2005), The Founding of a Republic (2009), Tai Chi Zero (2012) and Tai Chi Hero (2012). On television he has played Zhao Xinmei in Fortress Besieged (1990) and Leng Zixing in The Dream of Red Mansions (2008).
Ying Da is the son of actor, director and playwright Ying Ruocheng. He studied at Peking University and the University of Missouri, and has directed several comedy television series, including I Love My Family (1993).
