Biography
Yong Mei (Chinese: 咏梅) is a Chinese actress. Born on 14 February 1970 in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, she is an ethnic Mongol whose original Mongolian name is Senji De Ma. She studied business administration at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing.
She began her acting career in television in the late 1990s and gained prominence with her role in the 2004 series A Chinese-style Divorce. Yong Mei appeared as Lady Nie Tian in Hou Hsiao-hsien's The Assassin (2015). She won the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival in 2019 for her performance as Wang Liyun in So Long, My Son (2019), becoming the first actress from mainland China to receive the award. Other film credits include Aftershock (2010), Ocean Heaven (2010), Nice View (2022) and No More Bets (2023).
