Biography
Yūji Koseki was a Japanese composer of film scores, popular songs, marches and military music. Born in Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture, in 1909, he joined Nippon Columbia in 1930. He composed the Olympic March for the 1964 Tokyo Games and numerous works for radio, sport and film.
Koseki wrote the score for the 1961 film Mothra, including the song 'Mothra's Song' performed by The Peanuts. His theme was reused in later productions including Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964), Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992) and Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. (2003).
He received the Medal with Purple Ribbon in 1969 and the Order of the Sacred Treasure in 1979. Koseki died in 1989.
