Biography
Yūko Tanaka is a Japanese actress born on 29 April 1955 in Ikeda, Osaka Prefecture. She graduated from Meiji University and began her career in 1979 with a leading role in the NHK television drama series Sister Ma.
Tanaka made her feature film debut in 1981 in Eijanaika and starred as Oei in Edo Porn the same year. She is known for her voice role as Eboshi Gozen in the animated film Princess Mononoke (1997), as well as appearances in Tales from Earthsea (2006) and Monster (2023). Her television work includes roles in Midnight Diner (2014) and the series Oshin.
She has received multiple acting awards, including Japan Academy Prize honours for her early film roles, and has worked extensively in both film and television. Tanaka has been married to singer and actor Kenji Sawada since 1989.
