Biography
Zach Kanin is an American writer, producer and cartoonist. Born in Washington, D.C. on 20 September 1983, he was raised in Newton, Massachusetts, and graduated from Harvard University, where he was president of the Harvard Lampoon. He began his career as a cartoonist for The New Yorker, publishing around 300 cartoons.
Kanin joined the writing staff of Saturday Night Live in 2011 and remained until 2016. There he met Tim Robinson; the pair went on to co-create the Comedy Central series Detroiters (2017–2018) and the Netflix sketch show I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson (2019–2023). Kanin has also written for Documentary Now! (2015) and Michael Bolton's Big, Sexy Valentine's Day Special (2017).
He co-created and wrote the HBO series The Chair Company (2025) with Robinson. Kanin has received Emmy and Writers Guild of America awards and nominations for his television work.
