Biography
ZaSu Pitts was an American actress whose career spanned nearly five decades from the silent era into television. Born Eliza Susan Pitts on 3 January 1894 in Parsons, Kansas, she made her film debut in 1917 and gained early acclaim for dramatic roles, notably as Trina in Erich von Stroheim's Greed (1924) and in The Wedding March (1928).
With the advent of sound films she transitioned primarily to comedy, appearing in supporting roles in films such as Dames (1934), Ruggles of Red Gap (1935) as Mrs. Judson, and Life with Father (1947). She also featured in It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963) and worked in television, including a recurring role in The Gale Storm Show (1956). Pitts received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. She died on 7 June 1963 in Hollywood, California.
