Biography
Zhao Fei (also credited as Fei Zhao; Chinese: 赵非) is a Chinese cinematographer. Born in 1961 in Xi'an, Shaanxi, he graduated from the Beijing Film Academy's cinematography department in 1982 alongside members of China's fifth-generation filmmakers.
He worked as director of photography on The Horse Thief (1986), Raise the Red Lantern (1991) and The Emperor and the Assassin (1998). Zhao later shot three films for Woody Allen: Sweet and Lowdown (1999), Small Time Crooks (2000) and The Curse of the Jade Scorpion (2001). His other credits include Let the Bullets Fly (2010) and The Sun Also Rises (2007).
Zhao has received awards including the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award and National Society of Film Critics Award for Raise the Red Lantern, and the Golden Rooster Award for The Emperor and the Assassin.
