Biography

Zhong Acheng, also known as Ah Cheng, is a Chinese author and screenwriter. Born in Beijing in 1949, he is the son of film critic Zhong Dianfei. During the Cultural Revolution he was sent to work in the countryside in several provinces before returning to Beijing in 1979.

He came to prominence in the 1980s as a writer associated with the Xungen literary movement. His best-known literary works include the novellas The Chess Master (1984), The King of Trees (1985) and The King of Children (1985). As a screenwriter his credits include Hibiscus Town (1986), The Go Master (2006) and The Assassin (2015). He received the International Nonino Prize in 1992.
