Aaron Moten is persuasive as a man who can be brave, afraid and looking after himself all at once. Fallout gives that uncertainty room to work, although his part of its three-way story is not always equally compelling.

Maximus does not become less frightened simply because he finds something brave to do. In Fallout (2024), Aaron Moten plays the Brotherhood of Steel squire with enough uncertainty to make courage feel like a difficult choice. Fear and self-interest remain part of the performance, and neither is treated as a reason to stop caring about him. We warmed to Maximus because Moten keeps his fear apparent even when he is being brave. The character can be hard to read without becoming remote.
His earlier screen work offered fewer opportunities to sustain that interest. There were supporting parts such as Petey in The Night Of (2016), then a regular role as Travis Feldman opposite Kathy Bates in Disjointed (2017). Emancipation (2022), directed by Antoine Fuqua, and Father Stu (2022) brought further supporting work before Fallout put him at the centre of a story. The important change is the time available to get to know him. A character who mixes bravery with self-interest benefits from more than a brief appearance.
With Jonathan Nolan among its directors, Fallout gives him two strong co-stars in Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins. Purnell makes Lucy MacLean's reactions matter enough for the violence to retain a cost, while Goggins gives the Ghoul's nastier comedy its confidence. Moten belongs in that company, but the balance of interest across their three strands is uneven. We recommend the series, though its wandering plot sometimes tests the goodwill the performers have earned. Even a persuasive cast cannot make every stretch equally involving.
The strongest reason to follow Moten is his willingness to let a sympathetic character behave selfishly. He does not seem anxious to secure our approval, which makes him well suited to Fallout's harsher encounters. We would like to see what he does with a part that leaves less doubt about the man's intentions. Start with Fallout, but allow for a few detours.
Biography
Aaron Moten is an American actor. Born on 28 February 1989 in Austin, Texas, he trained at the Juilliard School, graduating with a BFA in 2011. He began his professional career in New York theatre before moving into screen roles.
Moten first gained notice for his main role as Travis in the Netflix series Disjointed (2017–2018). Subsequent credits include The Night Of (2016), Next (2020), Father Stu (2022), Emancipation (2022) and Ricki and the Flash (2015). He stars as Maximus in the Amazon series Fallout (2024–present).
