Biography

Adrian Johnston is a British composer for film and television. Born in 1961, he began his career writing and performing scores for restored silent films before composing for theatre productions at the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

His first feature film score was for Jude (1996). He has since composed for more than thirty films, including Becoming Jane (2007), Brideshead Revisited (2008), Kinky Boots (2005) and The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018), as well as television series such as Giri/Haji (2019), Red Riding (2009) and the Strike adaptations (2017–).

Johnston won a Primetime Emmy for the score of Shackleton (2002) and a BAFTA for Capturing Mary (2007). He has received multiple further BAFTA and Royal Television Society nominations and awards.
