Biography
Agnès Godard is a French cinematographer. She was born on 28 May 1951 in Dun-sur-Auron, Cher, France. After studying journalism she trained in film at IDHEC (now La Fémis), graduating in 1980.
Godard worked as an assistant camera operator and focus puller on films by Wim Wenders, Joseph Losey, Peter Greenaway and Alain Resnais during the 1980s. Her first collaboration with director Claire Denis came on the 1988 feature Chocolat, where she served as camera operator. She has been Denis’s regular director of photography since 1990.
Godard’s credits as cinematographer include Beau Travail (2000), for which she received a César Award, Home (2008), Sister (2012) and Let the Sunshine In (2017). She has also worked with Catherine Corsini and Érick Zonca.
