Biography
Akin McKenzie is a production designer. A graduate of UCLA Film School, he began working in art direction and production design on independent films before moving to larger projects.
His credits include production design on the television series When They See Us (2019) and Random Acts of Flyness (2018), and on the films Wildlife (2018), Native Son (2019), Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021) and The Woman King (2022). He has collaborated repeatedly with director Terence Nance and has also created films for musicians including Jay-Z, Common and Rage Against the Machine.
McKenzie has lectured on production design at UCLA and served as an advisor to the Sundance Institute Directors Lab and the Cannes Pavilion Afriques. He is based in Maryland.
