Biography
Alain Romans was a Polish-born French jazz pianist and composer. Born Roman Abram Szlezynger in Częstochowa, Poland, on 13 January 1905, he studied at conservatories in Leipzig, Berlin and Paris, where his teachers included Vincent d'Indy. He settled in France, was naturalised in 1930, and worked with artists including Josephine Baker and Django Reinhardt before specialising in film music.
Romans composed scores for around a dozen films between the 1930s and 1960s. He is best known for his work with Jacques Tati, writing the music for Monsieur Hulot's Holiday (1953), which includes the theme "Quel temps fait-il à Paris?", and Mon Oncle (1958). He died in Paris on 19 December 1988.
