Biography
Alan Hale Jr. was an American actor. He was the son of character actor Alan Hale and began appearing in films as a child before taking adult roles from the 1940s onward.
He appeared in numerous Westerns and supporting parts in feature films, including Silver Lode (1954) and Hang 'em High (1968). Hale is best known for playing Captain Jonas Grumby, known as the Skipper, in the television series Gilligan's Island (1964–1967) and its subsequent television films and spin-offs. He also had guest roles in series such as Bonanza, Murder, She Wrote and Magnum, P.I..
