Biography

Alan Tilvern (5 November 1918 – 17 December 2003) was an English actor. Born Abraham Tilevitch in Whitechapel, London, to Lithuanian-Jewish parents, he worked as a barrow boy in Brick Lane after leaving school. He served in the Army during the Second World War and was invalided out in 1945. He began his acting career the following year and continued working in film and television until the early 1990s.

Tilvern played R.K. Maroon in Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988). His other film roles include appearances in Superman (1978), Little Shop of Horrors (1986), The Lord of the Rings (1978), Love and Death (1975) and Firefox (1982). He also acted in television series including Doctor Who (1963) and The Saint (1962). He was married to Diane Elliott from 1963; the marriage ended in divorce and they had one daughter.
