Biography
Albert Akst (1899–1958) was an American film editor. He began his career as a musician, playing saxophone in the Meyer Davis Orchestra and in vaudeville until 1930, before joining Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer as a cutter of short subjects and advancing to feature-film editor.
Akst edited more than fifty films, many of them MGM musicals and dramas. His credits include Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), Easter Parade (1948), The Band Wagon (1953), Brigadoon (1954) and Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956). He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing for the last of these.
