Biography
Aleksander Ścibor-Rylski (also credited as Александр Сцибор-Рыльский) was a Polish screenwriter, film director and writer. He was born on 16 March 1928 in Grudziądz and died on 3 April 1983 in Warsaw.
He studied Polish literature at the University of Warsaw and began publishing poetry in 1946 and prose in 1950. From 1951 he worked extensively in film, writing more than 25 screenplays. He is best known for his scripts for Andrzej Wajda’s Man of Marble (1977) and Man of Iron (1981), and also wrote the dialogue for In Desert and Wilderness (1973) and the screenplay for the television series Lalka (1977). He directed several features in the 1960s.
Ścibor-Rylski served in the Gray Ranks and the Home Army during the Second World War and took part in the Warsaw Uprising. He held editorial and artistic roles at film units including “Rytm” and “Pryzmat”.
