Biography

Alex Karras was an American actor, former professional American football player and wrestler. Born in Gary, Indiana, he played for the Detroit Lions in the NFL before transitioning to acting.

He made his film debut playing himself in Paper Lion (1968). Karras is known for roles including Mongo in Blazing Saddles (1974), Sheriff Wallace in Porky's (1981), 'Squash' Bernstein in Victor/Victoria (1982) and Hank Sully in Against All Odds (1984). His final screen appearance was as the TV Sportscaster in Buffalo '66 (1998). He starred as George Papadapolis opposite his wife Susan Clark in the sitcom Webster (1983–1989).

Karras also worked as a sportscaster, including on Monday Night Football.
