Biography
Alex Pillai, also credited as Alex Sanjiv Pillai, is a British television and film director. He was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and trained at the National Film and Television School. His early television work included a break directing for actor and producer Sir Lenny Henry.
Pillai has directed episodes of series including Midsomer Murders (2012–2017), Merlin, Da Vinci's Demons, Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Bridgerton (2022), Walker, DI Ray and Doctor Who (2024–2025). He also directed the feature How to Date Billy Walsh (2024). He has received the FIPA D'Argent and a Screen Nation Award.
