Biography
Sir Alexander Korda (born Sándor László Kellner, 16 September 1893 – 23 January 1956) was a British film producer and director. Born in Pusztatúrpásztó, Austria-Hungary (now Hungary), he began his career in Hungarian silent films before working in Austria, Germany and briefly in Hollywood from 1926 to 1930.
From 1930 he was based in Britain, where he founded London Films. He directed and produced The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933) and produced Things to Come (1936). Other credits include producing The Thief of Bagdad (1940) and The Fallen Idol (1948), and executive producing The Third Man (1949). Korda was the first filmmaker to be knighted.
