Biography

Alexander Morton (24 March 1945 – 14 April 2026) was a Scottish actor. Born in Glasgow, he trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London from 1965 to 1968.

He is best known for playing Golly Mackenzie in all 64 episodes of the BBC series Monarch of the Glen (2000–2005). Earlier, he appeared regularly as Andy Semple in the Scottish soap Take the High Road. His film roles include David Reynolds in Croupier (1998), Duncan Allen in London to Brighton (2006), and Barde in Valhalla Rising (2010). He also worked extensively in television series such as Taggart, Second Sight and Casualty, as well as on stage and radio, including the first portrayal of Inspector Rebus.

Morton was married to Jane Morton.
