Biography
Ali Asad is a British cinematographer of Syrian origin. Born on 11 October 1961 in Salamiyya, Syria, he grew up in England. He studied painting, sculpture and art history at Goldsmiths College before completing a diploma in cinematography at the London Film School.
Asad has worked as director of photography on feature films including Doghouse (2009), A Lonely Place to Die (2011) and Mad to Be Normal (2017). He has collaborated repeatedly with director Julian Gilbey. On television he served as director of photography for episodes of Doctor Who (series 9, 2015) and the BBC series Marriage (2022).
His credits also include additional photography on earlier Doctor Who episodes and work on music videos and documentaries. He has received awards for his cinematography, including at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival.
