Allan Mustafa plays fools without ever letting on that he knows they are fools. Grindah of Kurupt FM, vain and thin-skinned and loved, is one of the complete comic creations of British television, and the only large one Mustafa has made so far.

Grindah believes he is the finest lyricist in west London, and when the world declines to agree he takes it as an insult to his family. Allan Mustafa plays him without a flicker of apology. Most comic actors handling a fool this size let us know, somewhere behind the eyes, that they are in on it. Mustafa does not. Across five series of People Just Do Nothing (2014–2018) Grindah is vain, thin-skinned, workshy and loved, and the performance never steps outside him to nudge us.
The series grew out of YouTube sketches Mustafa made with college friends Hugo Chegwin, Steve Stamp and Asim Chaudhry about a fictional pirate radio station in west London. A BBC pilot aired in 2012; the series proper began on BBC Three in July 2014 with four half-hour episodes and ran to 2018. Mustafa co-created it, co-wrote it and starred, and it is the best British comedy in the mockumentary line since The Office, a debt it wears openly. The format is borrowed. The characters are not, and they are what carry it. Chegwin's Beats carries the equipment and apologises for things he has not done; Chaudhry's Chabuddy G has a business card for every venture and a customer for none; Stamp's Steves cannot finish a thought. Grindah sits in the middle of them, taking the credit.
Mustafa has said the show "took inspiration from growing up in the suburbs. It’s not the countryside where you have an outdoor lifestyle, or the inner city where you’re on the pulse of what’s going on. It creates this culture of frustration and not doing much." That is the engine of the thing: men with nowhere to go and a microphone. We laughed at Grindah for five series and, somewhere in the fifth, found ourselves sorry for him, because Mustafa lets the sadness show only when the character is not looking, and it arrives without any change in tone. The first series is thin, as we said at the time. The fifth is not.
The feature, People Just Do Nothing: Big in Japan (2021), took the same men to Tokyo, and a mockumentary about small lives does not obviously want a plot that size. Since Kurupt FM went off air Mustafa has co-created The Curse (2022), in which he plays Albert, and Peacock (2022–2024), in which he plays Andy, and has taken supporting parts in Love Wedding Repeat (2020) and Ludwig (2024).
Grindah was made by a man with no formal training and three friends who knew him well enough to write him. What we do not yet know is whether Mustafa has a second one in him. Nothing in the record says he has not. Nothing yet says he has.

Allan Mustafa, also known as Seapa, is a British actor, comedian and writer. He was born on 29 September 1985 in London.
Mustafa co-created the BBC mockumentary series People Just Do Nothing (2014–2018) with Steve Stamp, Hugo Chegwin and Asim Chaudhry, and starred as Anthony "MC Grindah" Zografos. The series originated from YouTube videos made by the group and won a BAFTA and a Royal Television Society Award. He reprised the role in the feature film People Just Do Nothing: Big in Japan (2021), which he also co-wrote.
His other credits include the role of Chaz in Love Wedding Repeat (2020) and Gary Jennings in the series Ludwig (2024).
