Biography

Amanda Abbington is an English actress. She began her career with small roles in the television series The Bill from 1993 and went on to appear in series including Coupling (2000), Being Human (2009) and Case Histories.

She is known for her role as Mary Morstan (later Mary Watson) in the BBC series Sherlock (2014–2017), opposite Martin Freeman as John Watson. Other notable television credits include Josie Mardle in Mr Selfridge (2013–2016), Sophie Mason in Safe (2018) and Marissa Fittes in Lockwood & Co. (2023). Film roles include Clemency Leonides in Crooked House (2017) and Sarah Levitt in The Lost King (2022).

Abbington was in a relationship with actor Martin Freeman from 2000 to 2016 and they have two children.
