Biography
Amara Karan is a British actress. Born Amara Karunakaran on 1 January 1984 in Wimbledon, London, she is the daughter of Sri Lankan Tamil parents who had emigrated from Zambia.
She studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics at St Catherine's College, Oxford, before training at the Arts Educational Schools London. Karan began her career in finance but turned to acting, making her film debut in 2007 as Rita in Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited and as Peaches in St Trinian's.
Her notable screen roles include appearances in Doctor Who (2011), A Fantastic Fear of Everything (2012), Stan Lee's Lucky Man (2016–2018), The Night Of (2016) as Chandra Kapoor, The Upside (2019), The Death & Life of John F. Donovan (2019) and House of Spoils (2024). She has also performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company on stage.
