Biography
Andrew Hewitt is a British film and television composer based in Los Angeles. He received classical training as a pianist and tenor from childhood, including studies at Westminster Abbey Choir School, a Masters in Music from the University of Cambridge, and a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Before focusing on composition he performed in classical concerts, opera and studio recordings, including on the scores for the Star Wars prequels and The Lord of the Rings film trilogy.
Hewitt’s first score, for the series Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace (2004), earned a BAFTA nomination for the Anthony Asquith Award. He has since composed for numerous feature films, including Submarine (2010), The Brass Teapot (2012), The Double (2013), The Stanford Prison Experiment (2015), The Good Neighbor (2016), Mojave (2016), We Have Always Lived in the Castle (2018), Villains (2019) and It’s What’s Inside (2024). He has collaborated repeatedly with director Richard Ayoade.
