Biography

Andrew Sanders is a British production designer and art director. Born on 8 June 1943 in Aldershot, Hampshire, he trained as an actor, studying drama at Manchester University before working in theatre, including at the Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh and with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

He began in film as an art department assistant and art director on titles including Quadrophenia (1979) and Chariots of Fire (1981), later serving as production designer on The Witches (1990), Spider (2002) and The Golden Bowl (2000). His art direction credits include The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), Sense and Sensibility (1995) and Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983). Sanders has collaborated with directors such as Nicolas Roeg, Martin Scorsese, Bernardo Bertolucci, Ang Lee and David Cronenberg. His work on The Golden Bowl earned an Evening Standard British Film Award for best technical achievement.
