Biography
Anita Loos was an American screenwriter, novelist and playwright. She began her career writing scenarios for D. W. Griffith’s Biograph Company, with her first produced script The New York Hat (1912). She contributed titles to Griffith’s Intolerance (1916) and wrote numerous silent-film scenarios before moving into sound pictures.
Loos is best known for her 1925 novel Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Among her screenplays are Red-Headed Woman (1932), San Francisco (1936), Another Thin Man (1939) and The Women (1939). She also adapted Colette’s Gigi for the Broadway stage in 1951. She died in New York in 1981.
