Biography
Anthony Caruso (1916–2003) was an American character actor who appeared in more than one hundred films and numerous television series, most often cast as villains or gangsters.
Born in Frankfort, Indiana, he moved to California as a child and trained at the Pasadena Playhouse. He made his film debut in Johnny Apollo (1940) and had early roles in Watch on the Rhine (1943) and several Alan Ladd pictures. He became known for performances in film noirs such as The Asphalt Jungle (1950) and for guest roles in series including Star Trek, Bonanza, The Addams Family and the first season of Zorro as Captain Juan Ortega.
Caruso also worked extensively in westerns and had a recurring role as El Lobo on The High Chaparral. He was married to actress Tonia Valente.
