Biography

Antonio Sánchez is a Mexican composer and jazz drummer. Born on 1 November 1971 in Mexico City, he studied at the National Conservatory there before graduating from Berklee College of Music in 1997. He is best known for his all-percussion score for Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014).

Sánchez has worked extensively with guitarist Pat Metheny and has scored films and series including Get Shorty (2017–2018) and The Studio (2025). His music for the latter Apple TV+ series earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score). He has won multiple Grammy Awards.
