Biography
April Smith is an American television writer, producer and novelist. She worked on several series from the late 1970s to the 2000s, including as executive story editor and writer on Lou Grant and as writer and producer on Cagney & Lacey (1982–83). She also contributed to Chicago Hope and adapted stories by Stephen King for the 2006 miniseries Nightmares & Dreamscapes.
Smith wrote teleplays for made-for-television films such as Ernie Kovacs: Between the Laughter (1984), for which she received an Emmy nomination, and Nora Roberts' Montana Sky (2007). She is the author of the Ana Grey mystery series and historical novels including A Star for Mrs. Blake and Home Sweet Home.
A graduate of the Bronx High School of Science, Boston University and Stanford University, Smith has been nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards and two Writers Guild of America awards.
