Biography
Ashley Nicole Black is an American writer, comedian and actress. Born in Los Angeles on 15 June 1985, she grew up in Walnut, California. She earned a BA in theatre arts from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2007 and an MA in performance studies from Northwestern University, before leaving a PhD programme to pursue comedy at the Second City in Chicago.
Black worked as a writer and correspondent on Full Frontal with Samantha Bee (2016–2019), winning a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special. She has written for and appeared in A Black Lady Sketch Show (2019–), and written episodes of Ted Lasso (2021), The Amber Ruffin Show (2021), Shrinking (2023–) and Bad Monkey (2024). She joined the Ted Lasso writers' room as staff writer and producer for its second season. In 2021 she signed an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Studios.
