Biography
Assheton Gorton was a British production designer and art director. Born in Leeds in 1930, he studied architecture at the University of Cambridge and fine art at the Slade School of Fine Art. He began his career in the 1950s as a draughtsman at ABC Television, later designing for the anthology series Armchair Theatre before moving into feature films.
His early film credits include art direction on The Knack ...and How to Get It (1965) and Blow-Up (1966), the latter earning a BAFTA nomination. He served as production designer on Get Carter (1971), The French Lieutenant's Woman (1981, for which he received an Academy Award nomination), Legend (1985), Rob Roy (1995), 101 Dalmatians (1996) and 102 Dalmatians (2000). Gorton died in 2014.
