Biography

Barbara Dziekan, also credited as Barbara Maria Dziekan-Vajda, is a Polish actress, singer and pedagogue. She graduated from the Acting Department of the Leon Schiller National Film School in Łódź in 1974 and has remained affiliated with the school as a full professor of theatre arts, a title awarded in 2014. She began her stage career that year and has performed with theatres including Teatr Nowy in Łódź, Teatr Narodowy and Teatr Ateneum in Warsaw, and others.

Her film and television work includes supporting roles in Krzysztof Kieślowski’s A Short Film About Killing (1988) and Decalogue V (1989) as the cinema cashier, Three Colors: White (1994) as Mrs Ewa, and later appearances in These Daughters of Mine (2015) and Playing Hard (2018). She is the daughter of writer Bogumiła Dziekan (1933–2014).
