Biography
Barry Spikings is a British film producer born on 23 November 1939 in Boston, Lincolnshire. After leaving Boston Grammar School he joined the Lincolnshire Standard as a trainee reporter and later worked at Farmers' Weekly, where he produced and directed a short film that won a Golden Ear award. He moved into entertainment, promoting pop music festivals and films, and in 1972 became co-owner of British Lion Films before joining EMI when it acquired the company.
Spikings produced The Deer Hunter (1978) with Michael Deeley, Michael Cimino and John Peverall; the film won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. His other credits include The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976), Convoy (1978), Texasville (1990), Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991) and Lone Survivor (2013). In 1985 he formed Nelson Holdings International and later served as president of Nelson Entertainment.
