Biography
Ben Chessell is an Australian television and film director. He studied ecology and medieval history at Melbourne University before graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2001. His early credits include short films and the 2005 telemovie The Heartbreak Tour.
Chessell has directed episodes of numerous Australian series including Dance Academy (2010), Offspring, Rush and The Family Law. His international work encompasses Camp (2013) in the United States, the BAFTA-nominated Giri/Haji (2019) for BBC and Netflix, and two episodes of The Great (2020) for Hulu. He served as lead director on Surviving Summer (2022) and Deadloch (2023), for which he received an AACTA nomination, and directed episodes of Doctor Who (2024).
