Biography
Bernard Eisenschitz (born 3 July 1944) is a French film critic, historian and subtitler. He has contributed to publications including Cahiers du cinéma and edited works by Georges Sadoul. In 2001 he founded the periodical Cinéma and completed the definitive restoration of Jean Vigo's L'Atalante.
Eisenschitz has occasionally acted in films by directors including Jacques Rivette, Jean Eustache, Otar Iosseliani and Wim Wenders. He appears in Out 1 (1971), The Mother and the Whore (1973), Favourites of the Moon (1984) and Wings of Desire (1987), on which he also received a screenplay collaboration credit. He has directed documentaries on film restoration and filmmakers such as Fritz Lang and Charlie Chaplin.
