Biography
Bill McCutcheon was an American character actor. Born on 23 May 1924 in Russell, Kentucky, he died on 9 January 2002 in Ridgewood, New Jersey.
His first major role was as Leo the Leprechaun on the children's television series The Howdy Doody Show. He later appeared as Uncle Wally on Sesame Street from 1984 to 1992. On stage, he played Moonface Martin in a revival of Anything Goes, for which he received a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical. Other theatre credits included You Can't Take It With You and The Man Who Came to Dinner.
McCutcheon's film roles included Dropo in Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964), Owen Jenkins in Steel Magnolias (1989), Doheny in Family Business (1989) and Leo Hansen in Mr. Destiny (1990). He also appeared in episodes of Kojak and Tales from the Darkside.
