Biography
Bob Penny was an American actor known for small supporting roles in films including Forrest Gump (1994), in which he appeared as a crony, Mississippi Burning (1988) as Curtis Foy, My Cousin Vinny (1992) as Juror #2, Sweet Home Alabama (2002) as Wallace Buford, and The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000) as Laidlaw.
Born Robert Lynn Penny on 29 June 1935 in Anniston, Alabama, he spent three decades as a professor of English literature at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he taught poetry and prose. He retired from academia around 1990 and turned to acting full time, appearing in more than 30 films and television series as well as numerous stage productions in the Birmingham area. He was also a published poet.
Penny died on 25 December 2022 in Huntsville, Alabama.
