Biography
Bobby Byrne (1932–2017) was an American cinematographer. Born in Jamaica, Queens, New York, he began his career as an animation cameraman before moving into live-action work. He served in the camera department for cinematographers Conrad L. Hall and William A. Fraker, later working as a camera operator on films including Monte Walsh (1970), Paper Moon (1973) and New York, New York (1977).
Byrne became a director of photography in 1977 with Smokey and the Bandit. His subsequent credits as director of photography include Blue Collar (1978), Sixteen Candles (1984), Bull Durham (1988) and Stealing Home (1988). He also shot 92 episodes of the television series Mad About You. Byrne joined the American Society of Cinematographers in 1994 and retired from cinematography in 2006.
