Biography
Budd Schulberg was an American screenwriter, novelist and journalist. The son of Hollywood producer B. P. Schulberg, he grew up in the film industry and studied at Dartmouth College before beginning his writing career.
He is best known for the screenplay of On the Waterfront (1954), directed by Elia Kazan, which won him an Academy Award for best story and screenplay. Other notable works include the novels What Makes Sammy Run? (1941) and The Harder They Fall (1947), and the screenplay for A Face in the Crowd (1957).
Schulberg also worked as a sports writer and testified before the House Un-American Activities Committee in the early 1950s.
