Biography
Carli Elinor (1890–1958) was a Romanian-born actor and composer who worked in American cinema. Born in Bucharest, he immigrated to the United States in 1911 and began his career playing violin in film theatre orchestras before moving to Los Angeles in the 1920s.
He served as a concert conductor at several Los Angeles theatres and composed or arranged scores for numerous silent films, including Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927) for its Los Angeles premiere. Elinor is credited with introducing sound effects into film scoring and with writing over a thousand motion picture scores. In later decades he appeared in many films in uncredited roles, often as musicians or waiters, including Gilda (1946), An American in Paris (1951) and Around the World in 80 Days (1956).
