Biography
Carmen Mathews was an American actress. She studied at Bennett Junior College and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, and began her professional career with the Stratford-on-Avon Shakespearean Company, where she played roles including Ophelia in Hamlet.
Her film credits include BUtterfield 8 (1960), Rabbit, Run (1970), Sounder (1972) as Mrs. Boatwright, and Daniel (1983). On television she appeared in episodes of The Twilight Zone (1961), Alfred Hitchcock Presents and as Colonel Lillian Rayburn in MASH* (1978). She also had a long career on Broadway.
Mathews was an environmentalist who established and ran a residential summer camp for disadvantaged children on her farm in Redding, Connecticut. She died in 1995.
