Biography
Caroline Frances John was an English actress. She trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and performed classical roles on stage with companies including the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
She is best known for playing Elizabeth "Liz" Shaw, a scientist and companion to the Third Doctor, in the 1970 season of Doctor Who, appearing in stories including Spearhead from Space, The Silurians, The Ambassadors of Death and Inferno. She reprised the role in the 1983 special The Five Doctors and other spin-offs. Other screen credits include Love Actually (2003) and episodes of Casualty and Sherlock Holmes (1984).
John was married to actor Geoffrey Beevers.
