Biography

Charles Martin is a British television director. He was born in London and began his career directing children's drama before moving into youth and adult series.

His early work includes the BAFTA-winning children's drama The Giblet Boys (2005) and the RTS Award-winning series My Life as a Popat (2007), for which he received the BAFTA Children's Award for Breakthrough Talent. He directed nine episodes of the E4 series Skins across its first two generations (2008–2013).

Martin has since directed episodes of series including Wallander (2012), Run (2013), Marcella (2016–2018), Counterpart (2018), For Life (2020) and His Dark Materials (2019–2022). He made his feature film debut with S.M.A.R.T. Chase (2017).
