Biography

Esther May Campbell (born 27 May 1972) is a British filmmaker, director, photographer and writer. A self-taught artist, her early work consisted of low-fi music videos and short films. She has also worked extensively as a stills photographer.

Campbell directed episodes of the BBC soap Doctors and Channel 4's Hollyoaks. In 2008 she wrote and directed the short film September, which won the BAFTA Award for Best Short Film. She directed two episodes of Channel 4 drama Skins in 2010 and a feature-length episode of BBC1's Wallander in 2012.

Her debut feature film Light Years premiered in the International Critics’ Week section at the 72nd Venice Film Festival in 2015. She has continued to make music videos and is involved in community cinema projects.
