Biography
Charles Yu is an American writer. Born in Los Angeles in 1976, he trained as a lawyer, graduating from the University of California, Berkeley and Columbia Law School, before turning to writing full time.
He wrote for the HBO series Westworld (2016) as a story editor and co-writer of one episode. His other television credits include Legion (2017), Here and Now (2018) and Lodge 49 (2018). Yu is the author of the novels How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe (2010) and Interior Chinatown (2020), the latter of which won the National Book Award for Fiction. He created the 2024 Hulu adaptation of Interior Chinatown.
In 2007 Yu was named a National Book Foundation '5 under 35' honoree. He is of Taiwanese descent; his brother Kelvin Yu is also a writer and actor.
