Biography
Cherien Dabis is a Palestinian-American director, writer and actress. Born on 27 November 1976 in Omaha, Nebraska, she grew up in Ohio and spent summers in Jordan. She holds a B.A. from the University of Cincinnati and an M.F.A. in film from Columbia University School of the Arts.
Dabis began her career writing for the series The L Word (2006–2008). Her feature debut Amreeka (2009) premiered at Sundance and won the FIPRESCI prize at Cannes. Her second feature, May in the Summer (2013), opened Sundance. She has directed episodes of Only Murders in the Building (2021–2023), Ozark (2017), Ramy (2019) and other series. In 2022 she received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.
