Biography

Christopher Hobbs (1941–2024) was a British production designer and actor. He began working in film as a props designer on Ken Russell’s The Devils (1971) and collaborated extensively with Derek Jarman as both designer and performer.

His production design credits include Caravaggio (1986), Gothic (1986), Velvet Goldmine (1998), Mansfield Park (1999) and the BBC serial Gormenghast (2000). He also appeared as an actor in Jarman’s Sebastiane (1976) and Edward II (1991).

Hobbs received a Royal Television Society award for his work on Gormenghast.
