Biography

Claire Carleton (28 September 1913 – 11 December 1979) was an American actress. Born in New York City, she began her career on the stage in the early 1930s and appeared in several Broadway productions before moving into film and television.

She worked in over 100 films, often in supporting or uncredited roles, including Helen in Born Yesterday (1950). Other screen credits include appearances in Mildred Pierce (1945), The Woman in the Window (1944), On the Town (1949) and The Reckless Moment (1949). On television she had guest roles in series such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955–1961), Leave It to Beaver (1957) and The Munsters (1964).

Carleton remained active into the late 1960s. She was married to actor Fred E. Sherman until his death in 1969.
